2. Course description

The CACHE Level 3 Award in Childcare and Education (VRQ) prepares learners to progress to the CACHE Level 3 Certificate in Childcare and Education (VRQ) and then on to the CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator) (VRQ) which enables them to gain the knowledge and experience which will allow them to work with children from birth to 5 years.

3. Entry requirements

You should be at least 16 years old. All applicants must have an Enhanced DBS and a health check will be required. Two positive references, one from school and one character reference are also required. Applicants should have achieved 5 GCSEs at grade C or above to include English, maths and ideally science. Those applying with a Level 2 will be expected to have a Pass overall and functional skills English - Maths Level 2. Those applying from Early Years courses must have three passed placements. NOTE: Because Caring & Early Years qualifications are designed to lead to employment with vulnerable groups of people, please note that you will need to have an enhanced DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) check before embarking on our courses.Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on a practical placement as an important part of the assessment process involves evaluating skills in real working situations. CACHE recommends 750 hours across the age ranges. As part of your study programme you will also be required to study English and maths at appropriate levels.

Other materials will be advised by your tutor. We have put a dress code package together at a cost of approximately £35 based upon the needs of students for their course.

You will be assessed by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods which could include:Witness evidenceOptional task set by CACHEProfessional discussionReflection on own practice in real work situationsInterpretation of knowledge from direct observation of practice in the workplaceWritten assignmentsLearners own plans and written records.Learners must also complete an effective practice study task and one extended assessment task (externally set, externally marked).
