2. Course description

The Intermediate Apprenticeship in Exercise & Fitness covers the knowledge and competencies required to demonstrate performance within an instructing role. The apprenticeship aims to develop knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology for exercise, principles of exercise, fitness and health, how to support clients who take part in exercise and physical activity and health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment. Additionally there are optional units covering a range of fitness specialisms. On successful completion apprentices will be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing & Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Instructing Exercise and Fitness in addition to the Intermediate Apprenticeship in Exercise & Fitness framework certificate. Unless exempt on entry, you will also achieve Level 1 Function Skills qualifications in English and Maths. You will learn through a combination of on- and off-the-job training. You will attend college one day per week during term time and spend the rest of your time earning and learning in the workplace. Apprentices will demonstrate their occupational competence through completion of a work-based portfolio and ongoing assessment. Your progress will be continuously monitored and supported by an Apprenticeship Officer. 3. Entry requirements

Entry is subject to interview and assessment. You will need to have relevant employment within a health and fitness environment. In addition, you will need to have 4 GCSEs at grade D or grade 4 or higher, including English and Maths or demonstrate ability equivalent to, or exceeding Level 1 in English and Maths.
