2. Course description

Learn how bricks are made, the strengths and weaknesses of brickwork, types of brick bonds, blockwork and various blocks, mixing of mortars. Make this the foundation of your entry into construction! The topics include: NVQ Level 2 Industrial-size brickwork tasks, marked to tolerances specified by the construction industry. NVQ Level 3 Advanced brickwork techniques and some supervisory skills. Level 3 units include: Brick and Block walling Dimensional positioning (setting out) All our courses are designed to cover the full range of topics and tasks as laid down by the awarding body in response to industry requirements. All practical activities are carried out within out start of the art workshops with theory work being a mix of classroom and assignment activities.

3. Entry requirements

You must be employed and working as a bricklayer, have an interest in brickwork, coupled with self-motivation and a keeness to learn new skills.

5. Assessment method

NVQ: Continuous assessment by college staff verified externally by the City & Guilds of London Institute. Health & Safety test taken externally. Students are required to produce portfolio of workbased evidence which will be reviewed on a regular basis throughout the year.
